Is there a point when familial obligations go too far? In every culture there is some standard of duty that must be followed, a duty to a husband or wife, parent to child, and in each culture one thing is constant, the one that sacrifices the most is the female. As a woman one must give anything and everything, for her family. Whether it be her honor to preserve the family name or her body to produce the next generation, a women has no say in anything concerning her. She is an entity used for the benefits of others; if a she does not comply with the expectations put upon her then she is scorned by society. The element of scorn can be seen in the Wasteland by T.S. Eliot. His second poem A Game of Chess jumps between perspectives, the first section is in a third point perspective of explaining what the house of this couple is decorated with, the second part goes between dialogue from the couple that inhabits the house, and the last section of the poem is a group of people at a bar. In the third section, the group of people are talking about the couple, specifically Lil, the wife and her obligation to her husband. The main characters transform the scaffold from the exposition to resolution. Next the traits of the scaffold itself deteriorate throughout the novel. Finally, the scaffold is applied symbolically throughout Hawthorne’s novel. The scaffold transforms throughout the book because they are there for different reasons. In the beginning Hester Prynne is there to be punished for her sin. Her sin was that she commits adultery and cheats on her husband. She cheats on Chillingworth with Dimmesdale. She ends up getting pregnant and she has a baby girl and she names her Pearl. Because she is beautiful and because she costs a great price. Colorful crayons to paint the pictures and the face. Introduction: I will gather all the children to recite the poem with actions. Give each student the pictures of different objects and parts of the body. This is done to make the poetry quite interactive. I will put up the cut outs of different parts of our face to signify the five senses. I will divide the children into five groups for five senses, eyes, ears, tongue, nose, fingers (skin). This is done to understand how our senses work. I will give the students pictures of different objects to help them identify the colors and the which sense is used in the object. I will also provide them with colors to paint the face cutout after the respective senses and parts of the faces are stuck to it. (Scholastic Teachers, 2015) Procedure: I am going to recite the poem and tell the children to repeat the poem after me, the poem will be recited using actions. Like if they say I can see! I see with my eyes, children are going to point at their eyes. The poem has mention of certain objects like sun, moon, stars, frog etc. I will put up the pictures of these objects so that they can identify them. The poem also lets the children to use their five senses to perform actions. Like if they see picture of a milk, they must ensure they drink it and identify it as a sense of taste. CLOSURE: I am going to ask questions: Where are your eyes? Where are your ears? Where is your nose? Where is your tongue? Where are your fingers? What do you do with your nose? What do you do with your eyes? What do you do with your ears? What do you do with your tongue? What do you do with your fingers? How many ears, eyes, tongue, fingers and nose do you have? When the structure of the face gets completed, it is put up on the board for display. Pictures of bell, flowers, ice cream, sun and dog are given to the student to match these with the correct senses eyes, ears, tongue, nose and fingers. The Presidential Election Of 2000 The Presidential election of 2000 was one of the most controversial and divisive political events in recent history, perfectly illustrating the schism between the two political parties and the almost uncannily equality of these groups. However, this election also showed the nation that although many issues keep these two parties in two distinct camps, an equal number of issues drew very similar responses from the Republican candidate, George W. Bush, and the Democratic candidate, Al Gore. Truly, the past few years have seen a gravitation on the parts of both parties towards a middle ground that has frustrated extreme conservatives and liberals; two minor candidates, Ralph Nader and Pat Buchannan, illustrated this conformity by their bids in this election on, respectively, more liberal and more conservative platforms. Nader's claims of two identical major party candidates were exagerrated: the two men did have greatly varying viewpoints on such issues as health care, abortion, tax ref orm, education, and the environment. However, other issues, such as campaign finance reform, gun control, the war on drugs, and foreign policy, have drawn remarkably similar stances from the two men. The issue of taxes became central to the 2000 election when Republican candidate George W. Bush promised to use a third of the current surplus to enact a substantial tax cut. This $1.6 trillion dollar sum would allow a tax cut in each income bracket, an increase in child tax credits and credits for married couples, and a repeal of the estate tax. Gore wanted to reduce this $1.6 trillion dollar sum to $480 million and limit the tax cuts to those he feels need them most, the tax payers in the lower brackets. He also wanted to create credits for college tuition, preschool, care for an elderly parent, the purchase of a fuel-efficient car, and retirement-savings accounts, all credits designed to give tax breaks to those who need them (Frank 72). The differences in the two candidates' views on abortion will chiefly influence the appointment of new supreme court justices. Several justices are looking towards retirement within the next four years. Bush would appoint justices such as Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia, while Gore would appoint justices such as Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. These justices would also have an effect on vouchers for religious schools and affirmative action. Bush would support banning partial abortions, but, while Gore claims he does not support these abortions, he would oppose banning them. Another crucial difference concerning abortion concerns the abortion pill known as RU-486. This pill is taken orally after conception and kills the fetus as in a doctor assisted abortion. Bush opposes legalizing this pill, while Gore supports it (Frank 72). Bush and Gore differ concerning health care in their methods of ensuring that all families are medically insured. Bush wants to give a $2,000 tax credit to uninsured families in order to encourage the purchase of insurance. Gore would like to rely on the Children's Health Insurance Program to allow low- and middle-income children's parents to buy subsidized insurance. Both candidates would like to give patients the right to sue HMOs, but Bush would like this right to be much more restricted than Gore would. Gore wants to preserve Medicare by pushing $435 billion dollars into the lockbox, while Bush would turn Medicare into more of an insurance based operation than social security based, allowing the money to be used for insurance and prescription drugs (Frank 72). Another major bone of contention between the two candidates involves environmental concerns. Bush and Gore disagree on where the needs of the nation outweigh the needs of the earth. A focal point of these environmental concerns has been the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. George always ordered the same thing so the old woman had started packing his sweets before he had finished telling her his order. As he headed out of the door, with the sweets safely in his pocket, he saw his older brother, David, walking to school with a girl he had never seen before. She was short, about five feet tall, with auburn hair. She was walking behind David and she occasionally ran ahead to say something and then returned to her position, behind him. He watched them both turn onto the school road and then made his way to the school as well. He got to the school gates just in time to see them both entering through the main entrance and going to their separate classrooms. He didnt see either of them for the whole day. George got home at around 4 oclock and called for his brother who appeared not to be home. His parents were at work so it was just him and Ginger, his old and fragile cat. He got changed and made himself something to eat when he heard the front door open and the voice of his brother calling for him. David was not looking his normal self. His face was seemed as though he was hypnotized and his eyes were full of exhaustion. He dropped his bag and without another word, he made his way upstairs, supposedly to his room. After about half an hour, George decided to check on how his brother was. He quickly climbed up the stairs and walked into Davids room without knocking. David was at his desk and as soon as he saw George standing in the doorway, he rushed to clear everything, from his desk, out of site. Why didnt you knock? David screeched. Why does it matter? It only could if you had been doing something, eh? George was getting cheeky. There was just a look of plain rage on Davids face. George thought it would be the best thing to leave the room, so he did, and went downstairs. Suspiciousness got the better of George and the following morning, he was going to try hard to get his brother out of the house, but David left much earlier than normal without George even trying. This was his perfect chance to read those notes David had been writing yesterday evening. He hurried up the stairs and scampered along the landing to Davids room. He had to open the door quietly since his mum was still asleep in the room next door. David had evidently cleaned up his room before leaving; the bed had been made and all his belongings were in position. George went straight for Davids desk and started to empty its contents onto the floor. The pile he was making was getting bigger, but there was no sign of any sort of abnormal letters or pieces of writing. Could he have known that George was going to rummage through his room? George started to replace everything back into Davids desk as it was before his careless search. Just then, there was the sound of the front door being swung open very loudly. Chinese victims of rape were treated with complete disrespect and disbelief. As with the one mother in The Joy Luck Club, she was kicked away by her own family for making such a claim. These rape victims were seen as disrespectful to their families and themselves. One social consequence of claiming rape is that their families shun the women and force them to leave their homes. Secondly, the community shuns them as well. As with the woman in the film, she was denied work and abandoned by her neighbors. She was eventually forced to marry her assailant in order to save her child. 4. One of the main psychological consequences of having the system of many wives and concubines is that not only the husband, but also wives have complete power over each other as in a hierarchical system. So in essence, it was their mothers' extremely high hopes for their daughters that led them to feeling inferior as women when these hopes could not be fulfilled.
